Apolos and the Journey to the Moon.

The Book I read was called Mission Control, This is Apollo. This Novel was about the struggles and and learning steps it took to get to the moon. There were a total of 17 missions from 1963 to 1972. Not all of them landed on the moon and to be even more precise only about six missions made it to the moon and back. The journey to the moon was a lot of struggles and heartbreak but the feeling of achieving the goal was all worth it for the United States.
The first apollo was a tragic start for the apollo program. Three astronauts lost their lives in a deadly fire in an Apollo Command Module during a preflight test. For this to happen was a huge disappointment for the apollo program and a wake up call for flights to come. This tragedy show just how dangerous it was going to be and how much farther we would have to go to be able to get to the moon. Getting to the moon was no walk in the park but was a race, a space race. The United States was in race to beat Russia to the moon and back and so far they were already in space.
Apollo 7 was the first Flight carrying American astronauts into earth's lower orbit. This gave americans hope and made NASA the top entertainment for the United States. After This flight NASA could breathing a bit more and now they could start tweaking the missions to land on the moon. Tweaking that was added to the rockets were Lunar Modules. Lunar Modules are a small craft used for traveling between the moon's surface and an orbiting spacecraft. They took the top scientist to understand how to fly a small aircraft in zero gravity. (Fun fact Lunar Modules walls are made from thin sheets of tin foil.)
Apollo 11 was the first United States landing on the moon, beating Russia in the space race. the first astronaut to walk on the moon was neil armstrong, his partner Buzz Aldrin soon followed. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin left a small gold olive branch on the Moon, along with an Apollo 1 patch and two Russian cosmonaut medallions to honour those that were killed during the space race. He almost forget to leave them until Armstrong reminded him and he unceremoniously dumped them on his way back into the command module. The pair also left their moon boots and urine bags on the lunar surface. The last thing they placed on the moon was the American Flag. The American flag they placed near the Command Module was blown over by the downdraft when they launched back into space. In future Apollo missions flags were placed a good distance away. After Apollo 11, 12 more astronauts walk on the moon surface.
The Space Race was one of the most important landmarks in history. Winning showed power and with power comes money and intimidation. Even though war would not have started if we lost it put the United States where we are today.

YAHTZEE

Yahtzee is a fun dice game made by Milton Bradley in 1956. when the game first came out it was spelled "Yatzie". it was first sold in a set of dice games called "LUCK - 15 Grand Dice Games". the name changed to Yahtzee when the game separated from the set of games to be sold as its own. The game is a development of earlier dice games such as Yacht, Generala and Yogi. Yahtzee is also very similar to the English game "poker dice" and the Cheerio dice game.

The object of the game is to score the most points by rolling five dice to make certain combinations to get the most points. Each player uses three rolls per turn to try and get the combination they desire. they are 13 turn per player per game. The game is called Yahtzee because it is the highest point value combination in the game. Yahtzee is when a player get all five dice to be the same number in three rolls or less.
look how much fun Yahtzee can be!

Farewell to Manzanar

1) How did the food served at the camp show lack of understanding of the Japanese culture?
The food severed at the camp lacked the understanding of Japanese culture because the cooks put sweet fruit over the rice which the Japanese do not do because they only put salty or savory food over the rice.

2) Why do you think the families in the camps were assigned numbers?
I think the families in the camps were assigned numbers because everything looked the same in the camps; the food, building and even the inside of the buildings.

A Fierce Green Fire summary

In the film "A Fierce Green Fire." it follows the stories of peoples lives who have dedicated parts of their life to restoring the earth or preserving the earths wonders. We are introduced to a woman who helped save the life's of many family's  by getting involved with the government and helping to clean up and move family's away from a diseased Love Canal. We also meet a nice man who was a co fonder of Green Peace, which worked to save whales. As of this day he is still fighting to save whales and other sea animals from being hunted.
SAVING THE AIR.
A company in California called "The Air Resources Board (ARB)" is California's air pollution control agency. In California air pollution was getting dangerously high and something had to be done, thanks to ARB there are now restriction put on cars and bushiness  about how much pollution is aloud to be released by the companies and cars. Since 1980 air pollution in California has gone down.
EPA
The EPA is a nation wide contributor to helping save the world. they do not specialize in one type of disaster but the y help clean up the air, water and land. if its not the EPA doing the cleaning then its help from other federal agencies, states, municipalities, or the company/party responsible for the contamination. The EPA is also a great way to get involved and learn more information about how you or they are helping the world you live on.

Erwin Rommel

Erwin Rommel was a strong general for the German. During World War 1 he fought as a lieutenant in France, Romania and Italy. In the following years Rommel would work his way up to become commander of the 7th Panzer division. The following year he was appointed commander of German troops (the Afrika korps).
The battle that he was most known for was the Battle of Gazelle, where he took over the city of Tobruk. Not long after, Hitler promoted Rommel to field marshal. Later in his carrier he acquired the name "Desert Fox" for his surprise attacks, he also gained big popularity in the Arab world and was regarded as both one of Hitler's most successful generals and one of Germany's most popular military leaders. In early 1944 Rommel began to have suspicions about Hitler’s ability of peace making and started to question Germany's reason for participating in the war in the first place. Friends told Rommel that he should become leader after Hitler was overthrown.
In June 1944 after the allied invasion had already pushed across France Rommel knew Germany would lose the war and started to discuss with other generals about surrendering. With more then 1 million enemies troop invading Normandy Hitler and the German officers were on pins and needles. With tensions high there was an assassination attempt against Hitler on July 20, 1944. Word got out that Rommel was involved in the plan to over throw Hitler and Rommel was offered two choices, either he would have to choose taking poison or go to trail against Hitler which he knew he would lose because of Hitler's way of getting things. Later that day Hitler's general brought him the poison.

I Intro (Leave Blank for now)
The Great Depression was one of the u.s. Biggest down fall and was the hardest
Slopes to climb back up. TR did an amazing job to help the American people out of their slump but it did not happen over night.

II Causes (The causes of the great depression were ________, _______, ________)
unstable economy, stock market crash, overgrown food.

A over speculation: People are buying stocks hoping that the prices will keep rising. stocks start falling and everyone withdraws their money making the stock market crash.

B Govt Policy: Hoover was very stag net and didn't do much for the government and the people.( add more)

C Unstable Econ: stock market was rising causing people buy more stalks which led to over speculation.

1 uneven prosperity: money was not moving around because people were not spending money and the people who war rich stayed rich and the poor stayed poor.

2 overproduction: factories made too much of some products and could not sell enough to make back their money.

3 worker issues / farm issues: After ww1 farmers were still growing the same food because that it is what they shipped to war, but now they have all this food (wheat) that they could not get rid of.

III Effects

A Poverty: Poor people, bread lines, less jobs

B Society: people were out of jobs and begging on the streets for anything to help then. ex jobs, money, food

C World: world trade was not doing well so there was not a lot of money coming in from out of the United States

IV Solutions: New Deal, alphabet soup

A Hoover: United States 31st president, Herbert Hoover. Helped put together the idea of the hoover dam to help people get jobs.

1 Volunteerism: People would give their time to help out with bread lines and hand out food to the poor.

2 Public Works: Gave people jobs to keep them busy and make some spending money.

3 Hawley Smoot: Made a tax for imported and exported items but it also made protect for American businesses and farmers with that tax.

4 RFC: Reconstruction Finance Corporation-loans were given out to help put money back into the economy. The loans were nearly all repaid

B Roosevelt: Was the e 32nd President of the United States and made the new deal which passed 15 acts to help get people out of the depression.

1 new deal: Roosevelt was passing laws like crazy to try and help people get out of the depression and rebuild the economy.

a alphabet soup
example: AAA-Agricultural Adjustment Administration. Made it so farmers would not over grow the same type of food.

example: CCC-Civilian Conservation Corp. Gave people work to keep busy and help nature.

example: SEC-Securities and Exchange Commission. Regulate the stock market and prevent fraud.

example: FDIC-Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Provided government insurance for banks.

b Criticsim?: there was criticism from the left and the right.
yes because the left thought that there was not enough government control while the right side thought there was to much

2 2nd new deal
a: improved use of national resources

b: security against old age

c: Helping the unemployed and ill

V Criticism: The left side thought that there was going to be to much government control but the right side thought that there wasn't going to be enough government control.

B Political Criticism (ex. Came from both the _left_ and _right_)

A Conservatives: still believe it was taking to much power away from the big businesses

B Liberals (ex: criticised the new deal also. They....)

Ex: Huey Long- he was on the left side.

ex: Townsends Plan-

VI Effectiveness: hugely popular

A Changes in US: made higher taxes but gave people over 60 retirement money

B Unions

C Culture

VII Conclusion: Something that started out as an editors note that would quickly help people build up a retirement fund changed the U.S. older age life style and would also move the retirement age.

Winter Olympics

Winter Olympics
1924

In 1921, the International Olympic Committee set plans to have a Winter Sports Week to take place in 1924 in Chamonix, France. This event was a great success, attracting 10,004 paying spectators, and was named the First Olympic Winter Games.  There were 12 events all together involving a total of six sports during the first winter Olympic. The first gold medal that was awarded in the Olympic Winter games was won by Charles Jewtraw of the United States in the 500-meter speed skate. The official medal ceremony was not held until 5 February, and by that time some athletes competing had already gone home so their medals were handed to other athletes on their team. During the parade of the opening ceremony, many athletes marched with their equipment on their shoulder such as skis, hockey sticks and more. According to the rules at the time, the athletes had to march in sportswear, and the skis or hockey sticks were part of their equipment to support their sport in the parade.
In the first cross country skiing event, the 50km race, had a wining time of 3 hours and 44 minuets by Norway’s Thorleif Haug. The last place finishing time was two hours and 30 minuets after. Hockey and ice-skating were held in both the summer and winter Olympic games. This put a figure skater named Gillis Grafstrom to become the first one ever to successfully defend his Summer Olympics title at the Winter Olympics. Finding themselves in the same situation as Gillis Grafstrom, the Canadian ice-hockey team is the last ever to successfully defend its Summer Olympics title at the Winter Olympics. Canada would dominate ice hockey in early Olympic competition, winning six of the first seven gold medals.
