imperialist nation?

I do not think that the U.S should be an imperialist nation in todays time. Being an imperialist nation can hurt the nation along with helping it. The war against the Philippines for example was a war that started because the U.S wanted the Hawaiian islands to expanded and put new ports out there for their navy.this caused deaths among americans but we also expanded our ports. I also don't think we should become an imperialist nation because I think it puts a bad reputation on the U.S, As William Jennings Bryan said "when the desire to steal becomes uncontrollable in an individual he is declared to be a Kleptomaniac and is sent to an asylum" when the desire to grab more land becomes uncontrollable I think it puts the same type of title on the U.S.

Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Imperialism has been happening scene the begging of civilization.

Theodore Roosevelt thinks that if we do not expanded and take over the smaller, troubled places that a stronger and more manful race will. I think that that is true but I don't think that we need to be that country. I think that the U.s can have a strong defense for our home land but does not need to be expanding and showing off our power. whoever I do think that during the 1900 it was appropriate to be an imperialist nation because we did need to show that we were a strong nation.
