Q's
When it was published, The Jungle was so shocking that it launched a government investigation of the meatpacking industry. The investigation eventually led to the establishment of laws regulating the industry. Using the internet, research an area that our government enforces now (meat packing, environment, pharmaceuticals) and report how this is enforced today.

imperialist nation?
I do not think that the U.S should be an imperialist nation in todays time. Being an imperialist nation can hurt the nation along with helping it. The war against the Philippines for example was a war that started because the U.S wanted the Hawaiian islands to expanded and put new ports out there for their navy.this caused deaths among americans but we also expanded our ports. I also don't think we should become an imperialist nation because I think it puts a bad reputation on the U.S, As William Jennings Bryan said "when the desire to steal becomes uncontrollable in an individual he is declared to be a Kleptomaniac and is sent to an asylum" when the desire to grab more land becomes uncontrollable I think it puts the same type of title on the U.S.
Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Imperialism has been happening scene the begging of civilization.

Theodore Roosevelt thinks that if we do not expanded and take over the smaller, troubled places that a stronger and more manful race will. I think that that is true but I don't think that we need to be that country. I think that the U.s can have a strong defense for our home land but does not need to be expanding and showing off our power. whoever I do think that during the 1900 it was appropriate to be an imperialist nation because we did need to show that we were a strong nation.

Vaudeville
Before the civil war entertainment was mostly dance halls and a few variety of theaters. After the civil war businessmen wanted to do something more with this. Thus the up coming of Vaudeville. Vaudeville offered an assortment of animal acts, acrobats, gymnasts and dancers. The music for vaudevilles was ragtime music, ragtime music was based on the patterns of african american music to simulate the hectic pace of city life. Saloons, music-halls, and burlesque houses cared to those with a taste for the risqué.

Life in Camp
Life in the Camps
Life in a camp for a rail road builder meant long hard days. After working in the hot sun all day workers would have their money in pocket and be able to go back to these flimsily assembled buildings made from wood and canvases. These buildings could be anything from gambling houses or dance halls to saloons and were put up as needed. During the winter times workers would pack up their camps and stay in towns close by. Once the weather cleared up they would move back out to the rail roads and most of the time would leave these towns close to ghost towns.http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/general-article/tcrr-hell/
Transcontinental Rail Road
Transcontinental Rail Road had a huge impact in bring people and cultures closer together across America. With rail roads built shipment were made way easier which made product available for more people. For people at that time the world became a little smaller. More exotic food such as Japanese teas and Asian markets opened up. Rail roads also insured production boom because people weren't just selling to what was near by but now could ship across great distance. Trade was not the only thing that improved but also did travel, people could travel across the length of the continent in a matter of days. Not everyone was happy with the growth of rail roads, Native Americans were being pushed farther and farther back and over time would force Indians onto reservations within decades.

Abraham Lincoln 1809
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln lived from february 12, 1809 - April 15, 1865. He served from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Abraham Lincoln was the Sixteen President of the United States of America. Lincoln's main goal was to end slavery and to retain and maintain the Union with all states.
When Lincoln heard that South California was against his ideas of the union and would push it to an act of war President Lincoln gathered his troops of 20,000 and began the start of the civil war. Lincoln kept Great Britain out of the war because they were supporting the Confederacy. Knowing this he kicked up the gear and over time made two different presidential executive orders known as Emancipation Proclamation. Another contribution to winning the war was cutting off the supplies of the Confederacy.
Durning the Civil war Union forces set up a blockade around the Confederate ports to stop incoming and out coming items such as cotton and weapons. This blockade stopped the flow of money to the Confederacy and made supplies run low.
